Take action today to stop I-3!

In a close vote Dr. Paul Broun, who strongly opposes I-3, has been elected and sworn-in as the U.S. Representative of Georgia’s District 10. He replaces the late Charlie Norwood. Dr. Broun has promised to sponsor legislation to rescind the study of the I-3 corridor.

This is hopeful news for Georgia’s national forests which would suffer if this massive expressway were to become a reality.

We now need to convince legislators that the study money should be rescinded. In other words, we want them to agree that I-3 is such a bad idea that we shouldn’t even waste taxpayer money to study it.

ACTIONS
1.  If you are in Georgia District 10, please e-mail Rep. Broun at paul@paulbroun.com and congratulate him on his election and on his promise to sponsor legislation to rescind the study of I-3.

Don’t know your district? Click here for a map: http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/pdf/gacongress2006color.pdf

2.  If you ARE a Georgia resident, e-mail or fax both Senators Chambliss and Isakson, as well as your House Representative. Here is a suggested script for your content, but please DO personalize it as much as possible:

"Please sponsor legislation in the Senate (or House) to rescind the study money for I-3, The Third Infantry Division Highway, contained in SAFETEA-LU, the transportation act of 2005, Sections 1702 and 1927. Not only is the new District 10 Representative, Dr. Paul Broun, strongly opposed to the interstate, but this road is unwanted, unneeded, fiscally irresponsible, and environmentally disastrous.”

3.  If you ARE NOT a Georgia resident, e-mail your senators and representatives informing them of Representative Broun’s opposition to the study and ask for their help in rescinding the study. Use the above script as a guideline, and personalize accordingly.

General Suggestions:

Remember that individual letters, even if similar, count as separate letters, while identical versions of a pre-written letter count as one letter; therefore, we are asking for individualized letters. Copy and paste from the above, make minor changes and add your own personal experience

Due to security delays with regular US Mail, we recommend you contact legislators via phone, e-mail or fax.

Pass this email along to your friends and associates who would want to act at this crucial time to stop this road.
