Press Release on PLAT Program (The Dahlonega Nugget, February 25, 2009)
Postcard Mailer on PLAT Program (sent out February and March, 2009)During the months of February and March, several thousand postcard mailers were sent to Lumpkin County property owners along the major streams and rivers, which are the Hemlock's preferred habitat, to be sure they are aware of the HWA problem, let them know there are practical measures available for saving their trees, and offer our help. Please note, however, that the assistance program is offered to ALL private landowners in Lumpkin County, whether you are a business or homeowner, whether you live along a waterway or not.
Photos from a Homeowner Help ProjectOver the April 11-12 weekend, twenty Lumpkin Coalition volunteers and students from NGCSU helped a local homeowner treat his Hemlocks for the HWA infestation. In all, we gave about 3000 soil injections to 320 trees on 30 acres. Such treatment is highly effective in eliminating or greatly reducing the infestation and provides about five years of residual protection. The homeowner was happy and made a generous donation which he requested to be used to help more homeowners save their trees. His Hemlocks breathed a sign of relief, and we all had a great time!
