HemlockFest 2009 Volunteers

Putting on HemlockFest is a big operation and depends on help from lots of volunteers -- before, during, and after the festival.  "General" volunteers sign up for specific time shifts and function within a volunteer pool under the direction of a Volunteer Coordinator.    

Volunteers are also needed to assist with the Hemlock vs. woolly adelgid puppet parade during specific time slots under the direction of Bob Billings. 

So if you're flexible and want to help, please sign up to be a HemlockFest Volunteer.  Volunteers not only have a great time, but there are special benefits too!


General Volunteer Duties

Duties are variable and based on whatever's needed at the time, but might include activities such as:

Before During After
  • Mowing and clearing brush at venue
  • Deploying festival signs around Lumpkin County & signage within venue
  • Delivering promo materials to merchants & other locations
  • Putting out trash/recyling containers & signs at venue
  • Marking off areas for specific activities
  • Setting stage, sound, lighting
  • Inventorying items as they come out of LC storage locker
  • Directing traffic outside & within venue
  • Ticketing
  • Staffing various booths (festival merchandise, silent auction, kids' nature village, etc.)
  • Participating in puppet show
  • Hauling firewood to fire circles
  • Keeping comfort stations clean and properly supplied
  • Carrying puppets in the puppet parade
  • Volunteer lifeguard
  • Tidying up venue
  • Hauling trash & recyling materials away
  • Taking down tents & tables
  • Collecting & listing lost & found articles
  • Retrieving festival & venue signage
  • Restoring venue to "like it never happened" condition
  • Taking property back to LC storage locker
  • Inventorying items as they go back into LC storage locker

To sign up as a GENERAL VOLUNTEER before, during, or after HemlockFest, please contact Jack Rogers
by e-mail at jack_and_patty_r@yahoo.com.  Please include the following:

  • Your full name
  • Your phone number and an alternate number if you have one
  • Each shift that you'd like to volunteer for

Volunteers receive a confirmation by e-mail.


Volunteer Benefits

Besides having a great time for a great cause, volunteers giving 8 hours or more of service have the option to receive a full weekend ticket for $10 or their choice of any single-day ticket for $5.  You can purchase your ticket at these special volunteer rates at the gate.
